As Cost Team Leader you will be responsible for recovery of costs for the firm and its clients. This will include preparation of Bills of Costs for detailed assessment, claims for costs against the Legal Services Commission, claims and breakdowns of costs to clients and other types of costs claims.

You will hold all line management responsibility for a team of Law Cost Draftsmen. This will involve taking ownership of all general queries, file reviews, bill checking, performance reviews, quality control and collation of information as necessitated by the firm relating to the recovery of its costs from opponents or clients. You will also be required to assist other members of the Costs Management Team with technical support and quality control as necessitated by the position and as agreed with the Costs Manager.

Your responsibilities will include being accountable for bills through the court process to include negotiations with opponents and advocacy at Detailed Assessment Hearings if necessary and as agreed with the Costs Manager. As Team Leader you will be required to attend conferences with Counsel/court/tribunal and represent the firm and client as required.

To be successful you will be a Costs Draftsman with experience handling costs matters from drafting Bills, to conducting negotiations, and advocacy. You will be able to deal with IT systems, time recording procedures and possess a strong level of inter personal skills.

Capable of working flexibly under pressure and to tight deadlines. You will have the ability to coach/mentor and motivate a team. You will be able to plan your own and others workloads, while maintaining a high level of written and oral communication skills. You will also possess a working knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules and Legal Aid Regulations.
