The leading pensions team at this upper quartile law firm is highly colligate, at the risk of sounding trite, the partners are both “lovely” AND leaders in their field.
The firm sees pensions as a “core” practice area and boasts a number of niche sub-specialisms within which it can legitimately claim market leadership. The bulk of the existing team is located outside of London, however, the firm sees considerable consolidation within the London pensions legal market and expects to see an increasing number of its competitors, particularly those with just one or two partners, exit the market over the next few years. The firm hopes and expects to be a beneficiary of this consolidation and is keen to nab an additional partner, with either a trustee or employer background to its London office.
The firm will require a lateral partner to have proven client winning skills and some portable business. However depending on quantum, the following requirement need not be high, as the firm sees this hire as a defensive/ offensive play. Moreover, there is some excess work in the form of corporate restructuring. Cultural fit and market reputation are essential.
