Leading Global employment practice – US law firm
The London office of this leading US law firm has been going from strength to strength. There are a number of leading lawyers and the firm and the London office have had another great year. Unusually employment is a key global practice area. There are over 80 employment partners and the firm has at least one employment partner in each of its international offices. The practice accounts for over 15% of the global revenue. The firm works on a global practice group basis and has a strong sector emphasis and this combination has lent itself well to the growth of the employment practice outside of the US. London is even more integrated with key influential lawyers and the sharing of key global clients.
The London team has quite a traditional breakdown of 40% high end litigation, 40% advisory and 20% transactional support. There is a good leverage of lawyers and there is flexibility on rates which is unusual for a US law firm. The lawyers are directory listed and are supported by a number of lawyers across Europe. The team also complements a number of different sectors across the firm and is close to the US side of the practice.
There is the strategic need for an established partner, with energy and drive. You will have a real influence in the team and be more than a fee earner. The firm does require a following but it is not prescriptive and the management looks for the quality of the clients rather than simply numbers. The sectors which could be of interest will be – financial services, technology, media, defence, fintech, pharmaceutical, retail and oil/gas. This law firm has a number of household name clients in each of these sectors (financial services tends to be more an investment banking client base rather than a panel led retail client base).
