Expansion of this legal department’s coverage has led to the requirement for a senior level hire to manage and lead a significant team supporting the retail bank. Focussed mostly on contentious matters, the broad remit of this role will deal with all litigation from the retail bank including business facing disputes, debt collection and recoveries litigation, the management of court orders and requests, fraud and financial crime matters, complex dispute resolution and commercial contract litigation whilst supporting various operational teams. Whilst managing the team dealing with strategic and complex litigation, you will be expected to be hands on with significant cases. You will need a good eye for spotting new issues arising across a myriad of retail banking litigation matters and will be given responsibility for policy professionals, leading them in designing, improving, implementing and overseeing key policies for the bank.

This is a senior position facing key stakeholders and requires someone with significant risk management and governance skills, who has experience drafting and presenting relevant papers. You should have some knowledge of contentious matters relating to payment services and have experience of dealing with external lawyers and regulatory bodies, including the Financial services Authority, Home Office and Financial Ombudsman Service. It is likely that you will have a significant period of time spent in practice before moving in-house into a contentious retail banking environment. You will from time to time be expected to travel between UK sites.
