The role

The Save the Children International legal team is growing!  We are looking to appoint a new Legal Counsel to join the central London-based legal team of our charity.

This is a fantastic opportunity for the successful candidate to work as a lawyer in this dynamic charitable organisation, in advance of Save the Children’s centenary.  As a result, the role holder will be expected, depending on experience and business needs, to do one or more of the following:

advise on SCI’s international programming operations; take the lead on managing, from a legal perspective, certain key global commercial contracting projects, including ensuring their design and implementation complies with relevant laws and negotiating complex agreements; provide legal advice to manage key legal compliance initiatives being promoted by the organisation; advise on governance requirements of a global organisation, including board matters.

This is a complex, interesting role, involving engagement and business-partnering with a variety of functions within Save the Children.

We encourage interested candidates with a strong legal background to apply for this role, including those with regulatory or compliance experience.

This is a great opportunity for anyone who is already in the sector or is looking to transfer from either in-house or private practice roles into the development and humanitarian sectors.  It is a truly exciting time to be joining us!

The Person

For this role you will need to be a lawyer or barrister qualified in England and Wales or a common law jurisdiction ideally with at least five years+ PQE experience.  On a personal level you will be a team player with a strong interest in the international development/charitable sectors.

The salary offered (in the range of £50k - £57k) is in line with the sector benchmark, and includes a company pension scheme and 30 days’ annual leave.

The organisation

We employ approximately 17,000 people across the globe and work on the ground in over 120 countries to help children affected by crises, or those that need better healthcare, education and child protection. We also campaign and advocate at the highest levels to realise children’s rights and ensure their voices are heard.  We are working towards three breakthroughs in how the world treats children by 2030: • No child dies from preventable causes before their 5th birthday • All children learn from a quality basic education and that, • Violence against children is no longer tolerated

Application information

We need to keep children safe so our selection process reflects our commitment to the protection of children from abuse.

Please apply in English using your CV and covering letter as a single document, including your salary expectations for this role and your rationale for joining a child rights-based organisation.  Please note that interviews may commence before the application process has formally closed; early applications are encouraged!
