Leading National Practice are seeking a Team Leader for their Mixed Liability Department.
Casework and Financial Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be expected to run (subject to no or minimal supervision) a caseload of personal injury claims involving employers liability and industrial disease, ranging from moderate claims to those involving injuries of the utmost severity, with a variety of funding types and thereby provide a profitable contribution to the work of the Department. In conjunction with the Department Head, you will set targets and then monitor the team’s performance against those, particularly in relation to billing, time recording, credit control and disbursement levels.
Management
Supervise, manage, lead and develop a team of senior and junior case handlers plus support staff in efficiently recovering losses on behalf of claimants in negligence actions, specifically in PI claims involving EL/PL or industrial disease. Plan effectively to ensure resources and people are organised to produce the most effective work possible. To complete team PDRs, setting appropriate objectives. You will assist in the ongoing development and implementation of the Department’s business plan and support the Department Head in management of the EL/PL Department, through supervision, coaching and mentoring of case handlers.
Business Development
You will be expected to take an active part in marketing initiatives, supporting and enhancing existing relationships with providers. Assisting in the development of the firm’s website to advertise the EL/PL Department and maximise site visits and enquiries.
Key Skills Required
• Ability to demonstrate a current working knowledge and ability to run employers liability, public liability and industrial disease claims to trial (including complex maximum severity cases) to include a detailed knowledge of the law and related procedures in these areas;
• Ability to risk assess new claims to the Department and participate in a risk assessment panel;
• To exercise judgement in relation to the selection/instruction of Junior and Leading Counsel and experts;
• To be able to develop, with no or minimal assistance, appropriate strategies in relation to issues of liability, causation and quantum with a view to achieving an appropriate and timely outcome for the client with cost effective working and profitable recovery of costs;
• An awareness of the local and national market trends in business development techniques within the field;
• A high standard of knowledge, experience and skill to deal with personnel issues, to include staff development and disciplinary issues;
• Ability to coach staff in legal and soft skill areas, such as client care, to ensure their development;
• Maintaining/implementing systems to ensure that hourly rates are suitably updated and clients are kept advised in relation to both hourly rates and WIP at appropriate intervals.
