It also leads the way in providing multiplexes, channels and services that are targeted to the region’s digital future, working in partnership with many regional distribution platforms in testing new technologies and services. It continues to offer cutting edge entertainment across the region, to include a first genre-based channel, a new Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) service and HD versions of specific linear channels, giving subscribers the opportunity to watch programs in high definition. It has launched the first broadband subscription video on demand service in the region, the sum of which has made a powerful economic contribution to Central and Eastern Europe.
More growth is still to come. As a result, we are sourcing a media lawyer with a taste for adventure to join the company. Reporting to the General Counsel, your day to day role will involve providing excellent levels of commercial advice to the business as well as negotiating and drafting all forms of agreements. This will cover the following:
Being responsible for local and regional related legal issues, projects
Providing support and full understanding of local legislation to the GC
Negotiating and drafting cable, DTH, IPTV, SVOD, distribution contracts in English language
Managing the electronic regional distribution contract archive in Hungary to ensure timely renewal
Working closely with local sales teams to ensure implementation of the carriage agreements
Working closely with local finance teams to ensure correct billings based on the carriage agreements
Responsibility for distribution agreement related disputes and litigation; and representing our client in connection with claims against its contracting partners and other disputes that may require liability insurance of attorneys
Responsibility for distribution related piracy issues, working with local authorities and courts to fight piracy
Responsible for carriage related copyright issues, negotiating copyright agreements with local or regional collecting societies
Responsible for legal representation of the company before the Court of Registry and other general corporate matters
Coordinate with the local counsels in the region, external law firms, notary publics and public authorities
Providing day-to-day legal advice to the different departments of the company
Deal with ad-hoc issues assigned to him/her by the GC
Maintain all the required broadcast and other licenses in the region
The successful candidate will have 5 or more years’ PQE. You must be fluent in spoken and written English at a professional / business level, including legal terminology.
We are seeking candidates who have substantial experience of working for major international law firms ideally, as well as media sector experience. Compliance experience is also a distinct advantage.
